  • Johnson, Burnett file for free agency


    NewYork,NY (Sports Network)- Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson and Toronto Blue Jays hurler A.J. Burnett filed for free agency on Thursday.

    Johnson finished his 21st season with an 11-10 record, a 3.91 earned-run average and 173 strikeouts in 184 innings over 30 starts for Arizona. His final victory of the season also left the fearsome southpaw five shy of 300 career wins.

    The 45-year-old is 295-160 with a 3.26 ERA and 4,789 strikeouts in 596 games (586 starts) with Montreal, Seattle, Houston, Arizona and the New York Yankees.

    Burnett finished second on the Jays with 18 wins, part of an 18-10 season which saw the right-hander strike out 231 batters in 221 1/3 innings over 34 starts.

    In a 10-year career with the Marlins and Blue Jays, the 31-year-old is 87-76 with a 3.81 ERA in 211 starts.
