  • Chavez pounds Vanda to remain unbeaten

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. recorded a unanimous decision victory over Matt Vanda in a super welterweight rematch at Mandalay Bay to remain unbeaten.

Chavez Jr. (38-0-1), the son of Mexican boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., defeated Vanda in a controversial split decision back in July.

The 22-year-old was much more convincing in the scorecards this time around, with the judges awarding him marks of 99-91, 97-93 and 98-92.

Vanda (39-8-0) has now lost four of his last six bouts.

Both title holders in the undercard retained their belts.

The IBF flyweight champion, Nonito Donaire (20-1-0), had his fight against Moruti Mthalane (22-2-0) stopped in the sixth round because of a deep gash to the challenger's eye.

Jorge Arce (51-4-1), meanwhile, stopped Isidro Garcia (25-6-2) in the fourth round after Garcia couldn't recover from the bout's only knockdown.
