COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • Davis notched just 175 passing yards on 12-of-22 efficiency in cold, windy conditions that saw the occasional snowfall, but it was enough for Ball State (11-0, 7-0 MAC) to improve the best start in program history while moving a step closer to a MAC title.

Both of Louis Johnson's catches went for touchdowns, while Briggs Orsbon and Daniel Ifft brought down the other scores for the Cardinals, who play Western Michigan in their regular-season finale next Tuesday.

NFL

  • According to the Arizona Republic, James, through his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, asked the organization for his release two weeks ago, and the Cardinals have refused.

James, the fourth overall pick in the 1999 NFL draft, was benched on November 2 at St. Louis in favor of rookie Tim Hightower and has carried the ball just three times for five yards during Arizona's three-game winning streak.

  • Adam Jones was suspended indefinitely without pay by the league for an alcohol-related altercation with a personal security guard at a Dallas hotel. He was suspended at least four games for violating his reinstatement arrangement, which expected the 25-year-old to refrain from any behavior that put him, his team or the league in a negative light.

Before the season, Goodell reinstated Jones, formerly known by his nickname "Pacman," after being suspended for the entire 2007 season for off-the-field conduct.

FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SUBDIVISION

  • College basketball has its conference tournaments to determine bids and seeding in the NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament. In FCS this season, we have a final weekend that will offer similar suspense.

Instead of March Madness, welcome to the November Nail Biters.

NFL

  • Campbell, a 10-year veteran out of Michigan, caught 12 passes for 121 yards and two scores in nine contests before suffering an injury to his left knee in Sunday's victory at Kansas City.

Stecker has played through a lingering hamstring injury for most of the season, logging just 43 yards on eight carries in six games. The nine-year veteran is one of the club's five season-long captains.

NFL

  • Coach Brad Childress said on Wednesday that, while Allen will be fined $25,000, the player will not be punished further. Allen was summoned to the league office Tuesday to talk about his play.

Allen was fined $50,000 for two late hits earlier this month on Houston quarterback Matt Schaub, one that injured his knee. The following week against Green Bay, Allen was called for roughing the passer on a helmet-to-helmet hit on Rodgers.

NFL

  • Miller has missed the last two games with an ankle injury. The fourth-year tight end has 21 catches for 240 yards and one touchdown for the Steelers this season.

Matt Spaeth, who has taken Miller's place in the lineup, has been limited in practice this week with a wrist injury.

NFL

  • Chatman was carted off the field late in the second quarter of Sunday's game. On 3rd-and-16 at the Cincinnati 41, Chatman took the pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick and ran for an 11-yard gain before he was hit by Eagles safety Quintin Mikell.

Mikell and Chatman knocked helmets, and the receiver's arms went limp as soon as he was hit. Chatman, who fumbled on the play, stayed down and the game was stopped so medical personnel could attend to the sixth-year receiver.

NFL

  • Hill completed 15-of-20 passes for 213 yards with two touchdowns and ran for a score in San Francisco's 35-16 win over St. Louis. Hill racked up a career- high 142.3 passer rating while leading the Niners to a 35-3 halftime lead, the most first-half points scored by the club since 1992.

San Francisco's 28 points in the second quarter tied the franchise mark for most scored in any quarter.

NFL

  • Manning earned the offensive honor for the second time this season and for the 18th time in his career after completing 30-of-46 passes for 320 yards with two touchdowns in a 33-27 victory over Houston. He amassed 300 yards for the 45th time in his illustrious career and surpassed Fran Tarkenton for seventh on the all-time completions list.

Harrison garnered the defensive award for the second time in his career after two plays led directly to scores in Pittsburgh's 11-10 win over San Diego. His sack on Philip Rivers resulted in a safety and an interception led to a field goal.

NFL

  • The Bucs also signed running back Noah Herron and linebacker Matt McCoy on Wednesday.

Graham suffered a right ankle injury in Sunday's 19-13 win over the Minnesota Vikings. The five-year veteran was hurt on his first carry of the game and had to be helped to the sideline. Graham had also been nursing a knee injury in the week leading up to the game.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • The Bearcats enter the weekend atop the Big East standings at 4-1, but they are followed closely by both Pitt and West Virginia, who are 3-1 in the conference. Cincinnati comes into the contest on a roll, having won three straight and seven of its past eight outings. The team was last in action on Friday, when it wrapped up a two-game road trip with a 28-20 victory over Louisville.

"I thought both teams played really hard, and there was a lot of emotion in the game tonight," stated head coach Brian Kelly. "And that is the fitting of teams that are in the same conference 90 miles away. It was good, hard, physical, football. I think I was most proud of our second half performance by my seniors." The win improved Cincinnati to 8-2 overall and more imp

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • After losing to Stanford (36-28) and Penn State (45-14) to open the season, the Beavers were left for dead by many. The program however, rallied by winning seven of its next eight outings, including a huge upset of then top- ranked USC (27-21) back in late September. That win is especially important, as it will serve as the tie-breaker if OSU and USC were to finish atop the Pac-10 standings. There is a good chance of that happening considering USC is 7-1 within the conference and OSU 6-1. Last weekend, the Beavers moved closer to their first Pac-10 title since sharing the honor in 2000, as they defeated California 34-21 at home.

"I was really proud of our team for being relentless," stated head coach Mike Riley on the win. "That's what I thought we w

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • After starting the season just 2-3, the Hurricanes have got things rolling and have won five straight games, marking their longest such streak since posting eight victories in a row in 2005. The most recent of the victories came this past Thursday, a 16-14 triumph over Virginia Tech. It was the 13th win in the past 14 Thursday night games for Miami, which now sits atop the Coastal Division standings at 4-2.

"We feel really good," said head coach Randy Shannon. "We're on the right track and definitely headed in the right direction." The Hurricanes are certainly doing some positive things these days, but they are closely followed in the Coastal Division standings by four teams and most likely will need to win their last two contests to advance to the ACC championship game.<

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • Mike Leach's Red Raiders are a perfect 10-0 on the season and are enjoying the school's highest-ever ranking. Tech can clinch the Big 12 South Division title with a win in this game and has had an extra week of rest, as the team was idle last week following a 56-20 rout of a very good Oklahoma State team.

The Sooners have had this game circled on their calendar for a few weeks now. Bob Stoops' squad has lost just once, falling to Texas on October 11th. Since then, the team has won four straight games. Oklahoma also had the luxury of a bye week coming in and was last on the field on November 8th, when the Sooners destroyed Texas A&M in College Station, 66-28.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • TCU, which needs a BYU win over Utah this weekend in order to be able to vie for the league title, is shooting for another 10-win season, which would be its the third in the last four years. The Frogs enter this week tied with the Cougars for second place in the MWC standings with a record of 6-1 after the team fell to Utah back on November 6th by a final of 13-10 in Salt Lake City. The setback snapped a five-game win streak by TCU, with the only other loss this season coming against second-ranked Oklahoma on the road at the end of September.

As for the Falcons, they too have had a very successful season with eight wins in 11 opportunities already. Like the Horned Frogs, Air Force also had a five- game win streak halted in its last game, a 3

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • Boise State is one of five teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision that is still undefeated at 10-0 and as a result is ranked ninth in the BCS standings this week. Except for a five-point win over 17th-ranked Oregon early in the campaign, the Broncos have won every outing by at least 13 points. Last weekend, the team dismantled in-state rival Idaho in a 45-10 decision at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow. With the victory, BSU clinched at least a share of the WAC regular-season title and is all alone atop the conference standings at 6-0 with this game and a meeting with Fresno State still remaining on the regular- season docket.

As for the Wolf Pack, they're currently tied with Louisiana Tech in second place in the WAC with a 4-2 record, but are just 6-4 ove

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • The goal for NC State is simply, win the final two regular season games and earn bowl eligibility. The Wolfpack, who are 4-6 overall and 2-4 in conference, have won their last two outings to spark confidence among the players and fans. Last weekend, they showed a great deal of heart in a 21-17 triumph over Wake Forest.

As for North Carolina, it lost a crucial game at Maryland last weekend by a 17-15 final, and that setback halted a modest two-game win streak. The Heels had aspirations of winning the ACC title and appeared to be a front-runner to do so, but the loss to the Terps put the team on the outside of the title picture. UNC is 5-1 at home and figures to enter this rivalry game with plenty of confidence despite the recent disappointment.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • Ole Miss has won its last three games to improve to 6-4, and while the team is already eligible for a bowl invite, a road victory over LSU would certainly improve the program's postseason prospects. The Rebels took a break from SEC play last weekend to post a 59-0 decision over UL-Monroe. First-year head coach Houston Nutt has his team playing with a great deal of confidence, and in addition to the fact that Ole Miss is the only team in the nation to beat Florida this season, all three league losses have come by seven points or fewer.

As for LSU, it came out completely flat against Troy last weekend, and the Homecoming crowd looked on in disbelief as the Tigers fell behind by a score of 31-3 in the second half. What ensued what the

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • Quietly, Michigan State has put together a 9-2 record that includes a 6-1 mark against conference opponents. The Spartans last won the Big Ten title in 1990, but the team can clinch at least a share of the crown if it can knock off the Nittany Lions. "We definitely know what's at stake," says Michigan State senior quarterback Bryan Hoyer. "I mean to get a Big Ten championship knowing where we've been, what we've gone through, and where we've came from this would be huge especially for the senior class." If the Spartans beat Penn State and Ohio State loses to Michigan, the Spartans will represent the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl. Michigan State is riding a three-game win streak that includes a 21-7 victory over Purdue last time out.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • Unfortunately for Michigan, it has already sealed its first losing season since 1967 and snapped a 33-season bowl streak. The Wolverines close out their season this weekend, and will not win consecutive games in a campaign for the first time since 1962. Furthermore, they have lost eight games in a season for the first time in program history, as Rich Rodriguez's first campaign as the leader of the program has been disastrous.

Ohio State can clinch a share of the Big Ten title with a win against Michigan but will need Penn State to lose to Michigan State in order to represent the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl. The only two losses this season for the

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • Maryland sits atop the Atlantic Division with a 4-2 league record, while Florida State and Wake Forest are a game back in the loss column. The Terrapins control their own fate, as only this weekend's clash and next's week's battle with Boston College on the road remain on the schedule. Fortunately for the Terps, they have already beaten Wake Forest, so a win this weekend over the Seminoles would send them to the ACC title game.

Florida State was in outstanding position to challenge for a spot in the title game before last weekend's 27-17 loss to Boston College. The Seminoles have now lost two of their last three outings since a 6-1 start to the campaign. They will close out the regular season next weekend with a non-conference clash against national powerhouse Florida.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • After all, the Bulldogs are 4-8 overall and have lost to the likes of Samford and Georgia Southern. They did manage to halt a seven-game skid last week with a 24-21 Homecoming win over Chattanooga, but this game against Florida represents a monumental leap in competition.

Speaking of the Gators, they are considered by many fans and analysts to be the best team in the nation right now. Since a one-point loss to Ole Miss at the end of September, Florida has gone on a six-game win streak in which it has outscored its opponents 299-63. Last weekend, the Gators handed Steve Spurrier his worst loss ever as the head of a

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

  • Still, the Cardinals must play Western Michigan in the regular-season finale, and the Broncos are 5-1 in the division. Ball State has opened this season with 10 consecutive victories, the best start for the program in 84 years. The last time the Cardinals won their first six MAC games was way back in 1978, and they are coming off a 31-16 decision over Miami-Ohio on the road. Clearly, Ball State hopes to earn a bid to a BCS bowl, but even an undefeated season may leave the team out of the mix because of strength of schedule. The Cardinals played the likes of Northeastern, Navy, Indiana and Western Kentucky in non-conference play.

Bill Hagans will be the umpire and will officiate his eighth Grey Cup, while the head linesman will be Dave Foxcroft in his first Grey Cup.
