Els, Dyson lead suspended Singapore Open
Singapore (Sports Network) - Ernie Els and Simon Dyson held a share of the lead Friday when the second round of the Singapore Open was suspended due to a lightning storm.
Els completed his first round in the morning -- play was also marred by a lightning storm on Thursday -- and finished off a five-under 66 that gave him the lead over Chih Bing Lam of Singapore.
One of the lucky players to complete his second round before another storm stopped play Friday, Els had a one-under 70 to move into the clubhouse lead at six-under-par 136.
Dyson, of England, had a bogey-free 67 in the second round to join the South African on top of the leaderboard.
Seventy-eight players in the star-studded field -- including Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington -- will return to the course on Saturday morning to complete their second rounds.
The third round of the $5 million event will begin later Saturday after the 36-hole cut is made.
Els and Dyson were among those relieved to have completed their first 36 holes before yet another suspension of play.
"We were very lucky to be on the good side of the draw for a change," said Els.
Thailand's Chapchai Nirat and Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy shared third place in the clubhouse at four-under 138 after both players shot 68 in the second round.
Mickelson was even-par through seven holes of his second round and plus-two overall for the tournament. Harrington was also even-par through six holes and standing at one-over for the championship.
