Oilers hope to halt slide in road test against Blue Jackets
(Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers will try avoid a fourth consecutive loss when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets for tonight's matchup at Nationwide Arena.
The Oilers were dealt their third straight loss Monday evening in Detroit, as the Red Wings rolled to an easy victory at Joe Louis Arena. Ty Conklin stopped all 21 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season, and Detroit blanked Edmonton, 4-0.
Sheldon Souray had a team-high four shots for the Oilers, who have also dropped five of their last seven outings.
Dwayne Roloson allowed four goals on 41 shots in defeat and was dealt his third loss in as many starts.
The Oilers are 6-7-0 as the visiting team this year and had a two-game road winning streak halted Monday in the Motor City. Edmonton will return home after tonight's test for a two-game stint at Rexall Place, beginning with Thursday's rematch with Detroit.
The Blue Jackets have dropped two of their last three games, but picked up a point their last time out when they lost Saturday's road shootout decision in Minnesota. Marek Zidlicky scored the game-winner in the final segment and the Wild picked up the 3-2 victory at Xcel Energy Center.
Minnesota's second shooter, Zidlicky skated in on net and fired a wrister over the glove of Steve Mason. After Derick Brassard lost the puck while stickhandling on his shot attempt, Antti Miettinen sealed the win with a wrister between the pads of Mason.
Rick Nash and Kristian Huselius each lit the lamp while Mason stopped 28 shots in the loss for the Blue Jackets, who had won four of five heading into Saturday's tilt.
The Blue Jackets are 5-3-1 as the host this year and have won three of their last four home contests.
Columbus edged the Oilers, 5-4, on November 5 in Ohio, but Edmonton has still taken five of the last seven meetings between the clubs. The Oilers have dropped two of three at Nationwide Arena.
