Forever Together wins Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf
Arcadia, CA (Sports Network) - Four-year-old filly Forever Together surged down the stretch to win Friday's $2 million Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Santa Anita. The final time for the 1 1/4 miles on the turf was 2:01.58.
Ridden by Julien Leparoux, Forever Together was racing on the outside down the backstretch while Folk Opera set a moderate pace. Nine of the 10 runners were bunched as a group entering the far turn.
Owned by Augustin Stable, Forever Together accelerated around the final turn and caught the leaders in mid-stretch.
The filly took the lead late and registered a half-length victory over Sealy Hill of Canada.
Highly regarded Wait a While was third and Visit finished fourth.
Forever Together is trained by Jonathan Sheppard and earns $1 million with the win.
The four-year-old has earned better than $1.8 million in her career with seven wins in 13 starts. She won the First Lady Stakes at Keeneland in her last start and captured the Diana this year at Saratoga.
Forever Together returned $11.80, $6.40 and $4.80. Sealy Hill, 2007 Canadian Horse of the Year, paid $36.20 and $15.80, and Wait A While paid $3.60 to show.
