Stardom Bound grabs Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies
Arcadia, CA (Sports Network) - Stardom Bound, the 8-5 favorite, made a move on the final turn and cruised to a 1 1/2-length win in the $2 million Juvenile Fillies race at Santa Anita. Ridden by Mike Smith, the two-year-old filly covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:40.99.
Stardom Bound got a slow start in the 13-horse field, but made an eye-catching move on the outside during the turn for home. The filly took the lead at the top of the stretch to collect the $1 million winner's check.
Dream Express finished second followed by 7-2 second choice Sky Diva and longshot Dave's Revenge.
Owned by Charles Cono, Stardom Bound has won three straight starts after beginning with back to back second-place results. She was coming off a win in the Oak Leaf Stakes at Santa Anita and also won the Del Mar Debutante.
Stardom Bound has earnings of $1,340,600 for trainer Chris Paasch.
Stardom Bound returned $5.20, $3.20 and $2.20. Dream Empress, sent off at 12-1, paid $8.80 and $5.20, and Sky Diva paid $3.60 to show.
